Lung cancer

Overview

Lung cancer is a condition characterized by uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in the lungs. It primarily develops in the lining of the air passages. Lung cancer is strongly associated with smoking, though non-smokers can also develop it. The disease may remain silent in early stages. As it progresses, it can interfere with breathing and oxygen exchange. There are two main types: non-small cell lung cancer and small cell lung cancer. The severity depends on the stage and type. Lung cancer can spread to lymph nodes and distant organs. Early detection significantly improves survival rates. It remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths globally.

What Happens During Allergic Rhinitis?

Abnormal cells in the lung tissue multiply uncontrollably. A tumor forms and may obstruct airways. This can reduce airflow and cause persistent cough or breathing difficulty. Cancer cells may invade nearby tissues and spread through blood or lymphatic vessels to other organs.

Diagnosis

Diagnosis includes imaging studies such as chest X-ray and CT scan. If a suspicious lesion is found, a biopsy confirms the diagnosis. Bronchoscopy may be used to obtain tissue samples. Additional scans help determine cancer stage and spread.
