Understanding Female Infertility in Ayurveda
Ayurveda, a traditional Indian system of medicine, identifies various causes of female infertility. Imbalances in the three doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha) can disrupt reproductive health. Excessive stress, poor diet, and erratic lifestyle can lead to Vata imbalance, affecting menstrual cycles. Pitta imbalance may result from excessive heat, leading to inflammation in the reproductive organs. Kapha imbalance, characterized by excess mucus and congestion, can hinder fertility. Additionally, Ayurveda suggests that blocked fallopian tubes, hormonal imbalances, and unhealthy sperm quality in partners can also contribute to infertility.

Treatment and Management
Depending on the underlying infertility issue, treatments may include hormonal therapy, antibiotic therapy to treat infections, medication or counselling to treat sexual problems, and assisted reproductive technology to perform in vitro fertilization (IVF).
For female infertility, palliative care by SGP’s PSA may involve lifestyle modifications to address the underlying cause of infertility, and psychological support to manage the emotional aspects of living with infertility. Fertility counselling and support may also be provided when needed.
