Leucocytosis refers to an elevated white blood cell (WBC) count in the blood. White blood cells play a crucial role in defending the body against infections and inflammation. An increased count often indicates the body is responding to stress, infection, or inflammation. Leucocytosis itself is not a disease but a laboratory finding. It can occur temporarily or persist depending on the underlying cause. The degree of elevation may vary. Mild increases are common during infections. Significant elevations may require further evaluation. Identifying the underlying cause is essential for proper management.

What Happens During Allergic Rhinitis?

During leucocytosis, the bone marrow produces and releases more white blood cells into the bloodstream. This may occur in response to infection, inflammation, or stress. The increased WBCs help fight pathogens or respond to immune triggers. Excessively high levels may indicate more serious conditions.

Diagnosis

Diagnosis is made through a complete blood count (CBC) showing elevated white blood cell levels. A differential count determines which type of white cell is increased. Additional tests may be conducted to identify the underlying cause.
