Ovarian cysts

Overview

Ovarian cysts are fluid-filled sacs that develop on or within an ovary. They are common and often form during the menstrual cycle. Most ovarian cysts are benign and resolve on their own. Some cysts may grow larger and cause discomfort. The condition can occur at any age but is most common during reproductive years. Many cysts produce no symptoms. Larger cysts may cause pelvic pressure or pain. Complications are uncommon but possible. Regular evaluation helps monitor cyst size and type.

What Happens During Allergic Rhinitis?

Functional cysts develop when a follicle fails to release an egg or does not dissolve after ovulation. Fluid accumulates, forming a sac. Most cysts shrink naturally. In rare cases, a cyst may rupture or twist the ovary, causing sudden pain.

Diagnosis

Diagnosis is typically made through pelvic examination and ultrasound imaging. Ultrasound helps determine cyst size and characteristics. Additional imaging or blood tests may be recommended in certain cases.
