Endometriosis

Overview

Endometriosis is a condition in which tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus. This tissue may develop on the ovaries, fallopian tubes, or other pelvic structures. Like normal uterine lining, it responds to hormonal changes during the menstrual cycle. However, because it is located outside the uterus, it cannot exit the body. This leads to inflammation and irritation. Endometriosis may cause significant pelvic discomfort. The severity of symptoms varies widely. It commonly affects women during reproductive years. The condition may interfere with fertility. Early evaluation helps prevent progression.

What Happens During Allergic Rhinitis?

During the menstrual cycle, misplaced endometrial-like tissue thickens and breaks down. Since it cannot shed normally, it becomes trapped. This causes inflammation, swelling, and scar tissue formation. Adhesions may develop between pelvic organs. Repeated cycles can increase tissue buildup and discomfort.

Diagnosis

Diagnosis is based on symptom history and pelvic examination. Imaging tests such as ultrasound or MRI may help identify cysts. Definitive diagnosis is often confirmed through laparoscopy, a minimally invasive surgical procedure.
