Grave’s disease

Overview

Graves’ Disease is an autoimmune disorder and a common cause of hyperthyroidism. The immune system produces antibodies that overstimulate the thyroid gland. This results in excessive hormone production. The condition may also affect the eyes and skin. It is more common in women. Symptoms may fluctuate in severity. Early detection helps reduce complications. Long-term monitoring is often necessary.

What Happens During Allergic Rhinitis?

Autoantibodies stimulate the thyroid gland to produce excess hormones. The gland enlarges and becomes overactive. In some cases, immune activity also affects tissues around the eyes, causing inflammation and bulging.

Diagnosis

Diagnosis includes blood tests showing elevated thyroid hormones and specific antibodies. Imaging studies such as thyroid uptake scans may confirm increased gland activity.
